Kim St. Jean graduated from USC
Aiken with a degree in Education, while minoring in Art Appreciation.
After teaching in the public school system for 10 years, Kim decided
to explore jewelry designing and it was not long after that, she
combined her creativity with her love of teaching and began teaching
others how to make jewelry.
This will be Kim's 3rd year teaching
for Swarovski® in Tucson at their CREATE YOUR STYLE seminars.
She has had several of her original designs published. She will
be teaching at the prestigious Bead and Button and Bead Fest shows
this year. Kim also instructs frequently at the regional Down the
Street Bead Shows. Kim is co-owner of Expressive Impressions, Inc.
in Charlotte, NC Swarovski® Crystal's first, and only to date,
recommended bead store in the USA. A full service bead store offering
many disciplines of jewelry making and designing classes.
CLASS DESCRIPTION
Day One
1.Earrings
Introduce a cutting technique using Wiss snips
Texturing with hammers
Piercing with a drill
Patina with a torch
Rivet with a brass nail
2.Pendant
Cut out a pendant with Wiss snips
Texture with hammer
Hammer a paddle for a bail
Rivet with bail in place
Embellish with misc. components
Wire wrap the ends of a leather necklace
Make a hook out of 14 gauge wire
3.Bracelet
Cut a bracelet length of leather
Punch holes and attach snaps
Cut a piece of copper with Wiss snips
Texture, hammer, patina and pierce the
piece
Attach the copper to the leather bracelet
with leather lace
Day Two
1.Negative space
Cut out a pendant using snips
Remove negative space with jewelers saw
Pierce along edges of negative space
Patina with torch
Wire wrap stones across negative space
Pierce and attach jump ring as bail
Knot stones and copper chain using C-lon
Day Three
1.Patina play
Blue patina
Green patina
Liver of sulphur
Ferric Chloride etching
Day Four
1.Pendant with cabochon
Draw out patterns for cabochons
Cut out metal using snips and jewelers
saws
File and finish
Rivet pieces together
Set stone
2.Make a chain out of 22 gauge
wire
Day Four
1.Pendant with cabochon
Using tabs to cold connect one piece on
one other piece
Draw and cut using techniques from negative
space.
Cut out and create tabs on a second piece
and rivet to first piece.
Using the fingers of the second piece,
set the cabochon.
TOOLS NEEDED
Chasing hammer, riveting hammer,
steel block, small ball peen hammer, safety glasses. If you have
these tools, please bring them clearly marked with your name. Teacher
will have tools and materials for purchase and use in the class.
CLASS FEE - $125.00 will include
all instruction materials and consumables for 5 days.
