Diane began her wire career
in 1999 and continues to upgrade and maintain her skills by attending
William Holland as a student and by taking private lessons. She
began teaching at William Holland School of Lapidary Arts in 2003.
She also teaches basic and intermediate wire at the Blue Ridge Arts
Center (BRAC) in upstate South Carolina, and at her own private
studio/gallery in Chesterfield, South Carolina and also for the
SFMS. She is a member of the Charlotte Gem and Mineral Club. Each
student will be contacted by mail 4-6 weeks prior to the start of
the class with detailed cost description and a list of materials
provided in the lab fee. Diane is a full time Registered Nurse,
and with a teaching background allows her to teach a very structured
class. Her favorite classes to teach are the beginning classes in
wire and wire sculpture. She and her husband have traveled for 9
years to juried festivals in North Carolina and South Carolina with
their jewelry crafts and opened their own studio/gallery in 2008.
She will include in her classes a look at pricing and sales. Students
are often treated to a field trip to view other works from simple
to very complex wire products. Diane may teach in other areas and
for herself, but she will quickly tell you that her she loves the
family atmosphere at William Holland.
CLASS DESCRIPTION
This class began in 2006 at William
Holland and is for the advancement of the wire I student. Students
will learn the difference between the wire wrap/wire sculpture combination,
partial wire sculpture and full wire sculpture. Before the end of
class the student will be able to do all three successfully. Because
of the amount of wire used, this class can be expensive. In order
to help the student with his/her expenses, the student is expected
to furnish their own wire. The student may work in either gold or
silver or in any combination they desire. The student will be contacted
by mail 5-6 weeks prior to start of class with a list of necessary
supplies. If a student wished to register closer to the beginning
date of class, they are expected to contact Diane at 843-634-6497
for any information needed. Please do not register late and expect
to have supplies unless you contact me. Student should expect to
complete a total of 16-20 projects using cabochons, faceted stones,
donuts, and wire. I certainly hope the sculpture student will come
and bring their imagination and be ready to design some of their
own projects. Any supplies other than wire will be available for
purchase from the instructor.
